Council Jargon


Does This Sound Like Jargon Used at Your Council Meetings?!!
  • The committee met and evaluated the situation. (Half the members showed up and chatted for awhile.)

  • We explored all possible solutions. (Everyone talked too much.)

  • A great deal of additional work will be necessary before the proposal can be acted upon. ( No one understood it.)

  • The results were inconclusive. (Nothing was accomplished.)

  • It is suggested that the wisest course.... (This is what I think.)

  • It is widely accepted that..... (One other person agrees with me.)

  • Therefore the consensus is.... (And a couple of others think so, too.)

  • There are some key issues here that must be addressed. (I haven't a clue what this job is all about.)

  • It is hoped that this report will stimulate increased interest in the problem. (Let someone else do it next time.)

  • Walks on water if the sea is calm
  • Talks with God
Assistant Area/District Commissioner
  • Leaps short buildings with a running start and a favourable wind
  • Is almost as powerful as a steam engine
  • Is nearly as fast as a speeding bullet
  • Walks on water in an indoor swimming pool
  • Talks to God if special permission is approved
Service Team Member
  • Barely clears one storey buildings
  • Loses tug of war with locomotives
  • Can fire a gun
  • Swims well
  • Is occassionally addressed by God
Group Committee Forum Chairman
  • Makes marks on walls trying to leap tall buildings
  • Is run over by locomotives
  • Can sometimes handle a gun without inflicting self injury
